capture the son 5/52 – photo challenge

A boy and his dog. We were just chilling out on the verandah.  All of us letting the warm spring breeze dance on our cheeks.  A gentle warning about the harsh summer to come.

They don’t know it yet, but this will probably be one of their most important relationships in life. It’s a different type of support a pet gives a kid.  When school is hell and friends don’t know and parents suck, the dog can and probably will be the catch-all. I’m so lucky to be able to give him the opportunity to have this special ‘mans best friend’ experience.

I look forward to watching them meander off to the creek through the knee-high grass.  Worrying about all the possible dangerous stuff they could get up to.  Breathing a quiet sigh of relief when I see them stroll back at dusk covered in dirt and clutching a bunch of junk a.k.a ‘treasures’.

Did you have a pet growing up?

Do you think pets make a difference to kids growing up or am I being too whimsical?

Got any thoughts? I'd love to hear them.
